A hand-carved, Qing Dynasty, fully finished, limestone Bodhisattva fragment in stylized, gathered drapery that clings to the body. The garments held by clasps, and the body adorned with a detailed necklace and arm bands. The designation "Bodhisattva", refers to those on the path towards Buddhahood, and therefore compassion and enlightenment. In some traditions, Bodhisattvas vow not to pass on to Nirvana, until all beings are enlightened.
