After the Theater, 1912- A large, signed, dated, original, oil-on-canvas by listed French artist, Pierre Gerber (b. 1887). The vivid picture is held in its original, carved giltwood frame. Gerber is known for portraits of upper class society, still lifes, figural studies, and scenes of daily life in and around Paris. His work was exhibited at the Salon des Tuileries in Paris and the Royal Scottish Academy, UK. A 1923 portrait by the artist was part of an important donation to the Museum of New South Wales by one of Australia’s most important benefactors of the arts, shipping magnate Howard Hinton.
