Turn-of-the-Century Italian Ebonized Bookcases – Ionic Capitals, Scripted Medallions & Pull-Out Reading Tablets, c. 1900
This rare and substantial pair of antique Italian bookcases from circa 1900 showcases exceptional Tuscan craftsmanship in a two-part ebonized design. The glass-front upper doors are flanked by fluted faux pilasters topped with hand-carved Ionic capitals, supporting an elegant entablature centered by medallions adorned with scripted "R’s", surrounded by relief-carved foliate garlands and ribbon motifs.
The lower cabinets feature paneled doors and are thoughtfully equipped with pull-out reading tablets, offering both form and function.
