An exquisite example of 19th century Bayeux porcelain, this Chinoiserie-style table lamp features a ribbed, hand-painted and glazed porcelain vase richly adorned with large birds, blossoms, figures, and a majestic architectural staircase scene. Accented with parcel gilding and mounted on a raised giltwood base, it reflects the elegant evolution of Bayeux artistry under Paul Gosse’s direction.
Dating to the 1870s in France, this Bayeux porcelain lamp embodies the transition from oriental influence to the distinctive apple blossom motif of the period. A rare and decorative lighting piece ideal for collectors of French porcelain, Chinoiserie décor, or antique hand-painted lamps.

According to the Bayeux Porcelain Museum, "Bayeux porcelain from the period 1855-1879...evolved from oriental influences towards the prevailing use of a vegetal motif inspired by apple blossom.
