Early 19th Century-Italian- Hand-Carved Gilded and Painted Mirror Frame with Shell Motifs
Early 19th Century-Italian- Hand-Carved Gilded and Painted Mirror Frame with Shell Motifs
An elegant early 19th-century mirror frame featuring a richly hand-carved frame finished in traditional gesso, gilding, and painted decoration. The design is centered around finely sculpted shell motifs, lending the piece a graceful rhythm and a subtle nod to Rococo revival ornamentation interpreted through early 1800s craftsmanship.
The frame retains its inlaid mirror plates, preserving the layered construction characteristic of period examples. The central mirror glass has been sensitively replaced with new wavy, antiqued glass, intentionally treated with areas of loss to the plating to harmonize with the age and character of the original frame.
