Glazed Resin Sculpture of Two Stallions by Marino Mazzacurati – Signed Italian Work, c. 1940s
An initialed and vigorously modeled resin sculpture of two stallions at play, this dynamic work is by listed Italian artist Marino Mazzacurati (1900–1969). Richly patinated and expressive, the piece exemplifies Mazzacurati’s mastery in capturing movement and raw physicality, hallmarks of his sculptural language across Cubism, Expressionism, and Realism.
Mazzacurati studied in Rome and Paris—working with Auguste Rodin—and was a central figure of the Roman School. Known for his resistance-era themes and grotesque forms, he later won Italy’s National Prize for Sculpture and created monuments across the country. This sculpture, from the 1940s, reflects his passion for animated form, emotional force, and experimental material, making it a rare and compelling piece for collectors of modern Italian art and equine sculpture.
